Water Polo Water polo is a full-contact team sport played in a deep pool and featuring two teams. Each team is made up of seven players, including one goalkeeper. The object of the game is to score goals by throwing a ball into an opponent’s goal. Athletes must have tremendous swimming ability and conditioning, as you need to swim or tread water while a match is being played—matches consist of four quarters that are eight minutes in length.
