Swimming While commonly enjoyed recreationally, swimming is a highly-competitive sport that tests the speed, strength, and skill of athletes through a variety of individual and team events. Race finishes often come down to just a fingertip as competitors use a variety of swimming strokes (dictated by the event category), including freestyle (front crawl), backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke.
