Turning Legacy into Action: Inspired by HER by Nicolette Caneda Strong Girls United February 27, 2026 | 1 minute, 44 seconds read Strong Girls United Check out more Strong Girls United video content on the Strong Girls United SportsEngine Play Channel At Strong Girls United, mentorship isn’t just something we value, it’s something we live by. We understand the power of relationships between young female athletes and strong, accomplished women who have walked the path before them. When girls see women leading, competing, failing, rising, and succeeding, they begin to believe that they can do the same. Research consistently shows that social support is essential to mental health and overall wellbeing. Positive relationships are strong predictors of subjective wellbeing (Myers, 2000) and meaning in life (Hicks & King, 2009; Lambert et al., 2010; Norrish, Robinson, & Williams, 2011). Connection matters. Representation matters. Community matters. At SGU, we intentionally create spaces where girls are surrounded by women who lead by example! Women who have learned through experience, taken risks, broken barriers, and built confidence not just in sport, but in life. Our goal is not only to honor that legacy, but to continue it. Women’s History Month at Strong Girls United is not just in March, it holds weight in everything we do, all year long. We lead with purpose to build strong bodies, kind hearts, and unstoppable minds because the women before us fought for the opportunities we now have. We carry their resilience forward by empowering the next generation to step boldly into their own strength. The statistics tell an important story: There are 1.3 million fewer opportunities for girls to participate in high school sports than boys. 94% of women in C-suite leadership positions are former athletes. Only 6% of CEOs in the United States are women — yet 94% of those women have something powerful in common: they played sports. Sport builds leaders. Mentorship builds confidence. Community builds resilience.
